Ever since I was younger I have LOVED thrifting! For me there’s such a thrill that comes with the hunt of finding something you love and pulling together outfits and ideas from it! As someone who worked in two different thrift stores in her teen years, I can say this joy has continued into my adulthood. One of my fav things to do on the weekends with friends is go thrifting! Whether it’s wondering about the item’s journey before it landed in your hands or finding the perfect vintage dress for an important night, I love searching for it!
When Savers®– also known as Value Village™, depending on where you live – challenged me to decorate my table setting for my holiday brunch using thrifted items from their store, I was a very happy girl! Combining my love of hosting, decorating, and thrifting?! Sign me up!
Since I didn’t know what I was getting into in terms of what kind of things/styles were going to be available in the store, I began my adventure by scanning the entire store to get a sense of the styles I could go for! Once I created the concept in my head, I began to mix and match my items, until I was satisfied that I came up with something that I felt was unique, cozy, and festive! After finding touches of plaid, mix and matched glasses with touches of gold, and some serving platters that tied in I knew it was all coming together!
One of my favorite things about this challenge was taking an item and using it as something it was not necessarily made for! For instance, I came across these super cute gift tags and used them as place settings! I also got these pinecones that were meant to be garnered in some sort of crystal bowl for a coffee table and used them as a statement piece for the setting! It really goes to show you how some imagination and creativity can take something and turn it into more than it was meant for!
I hope this post gives you some inspo the next time you go thrifting at Savers®!
