As you all know I recently went to Mardi Gras in New Orleans! This trip was very exciting because this was the first time I had been to Mardi Gras in TEN years and I got to bring my husband and Rachael Martino to experience the crazed holiday! Here’s a little roundup of what we did and ate- great for all year round, not just Mardi Gras!
BRENNAN’S
The first place I ate at was the famed Brennan’s! The restaurants is an institution and is a must anytime I visit! From the ambiance to the food- Brennan’s offers you old-world New Orleans charm through and through! I highly recommend the Trout Almondine for an entree and the Bananas Foster (which was actually created at the restaurant) for dessert!
THE RUBY SLIPPER CAFE
For brunch, we ate at The Ruby Slipper Cafe TWICE! I have been before and this place never disappoints! I reccomend getting the standard breakfast because you get a little of everything! We also ordered the Bananas Foster French toast and it is sooooo good! It’s definitely a must!
TO-GO DRINKS
Drinks..drinks..drinks! As we all know, New Orleans is know for having a good time and there is nothing better than grabbing a drink and hitting the French Quarter with some friends! If you’re looking for some go-to must souvenirs drinks, the Hand Grenade and Big Easy Daquiri are both great! Also, though I did not get a picture, New Orleans is known for its Hurricane drink-which is also a must try!
COMMANDER’S PALACE
Another great dinner spot for a nice night out is Commander’s Palace! Everything about this place from the staff to the food is phenomenal! This Almodine here was made with pecans, which made it even better in my opinion! Though this menu offers so many fantastic dishes, I’d advise you to not get too full on dinner, because the desserts are soo delicious! I had the best strawberry shortcake I have had in my life and their bread pudding soufflé’s is nothing short of nirvana.
CAFE DU MONDE
Cafe Du Monde! What can I say about this place that hasn’t been said before?! From Kim Kardashian to every Tom, Dick, and Harry- this place is loved by many! A plate of beignets with a hot chocolate or cafe au lait is sure to brighten up anyones day!
COCHON
After attending a round of parades, we headed to Cochon! This place is really delicious! It offers many things that Louisiana is known for (even alligator)! If you’re looking for some southern comfort food with a flare, this place is for you! Make sure you call in advanced, reservations can be hard!
THE COURT OF TWO SISTERS
The Court of Two Sisters! We had brunch here and it was really good! The brunch is buffet style and has a live jazz band! They have anything you could ask for when it comes to creole/cajun food! I’ve also had dinner here before and I recommend that as well! The lit of courtyard at night is very romantic and if you go during Spring/Summer there’s lots of flowers!
I hope you enjoyed this little piece of New Orleans! If you have been considering Mardi Gras or even just a weekend get away to New Orleans, I highly recommend it! Theres lots of fun to be had in the Big Easy!
